Maca: Because Coffee Ain’t Enough

Maca: Because Coffee Ain’t Enough

Soooo…I did a thing. At the start of 2023 I attempted to give up coffee and wine. Not for good, just for a little while.

I was fairly successful. I gave up coffee for a full 30 days, and the wine…about 3 weeks. Don’t judge me, judge ya mama! I should mention, I felt great. Amazing, even. I know that’s partially because I started taking a “coffee replacement” that an instagram ad harassed me into buying. Maca. I think it was Organic Burst Maca, to be specific.

Maca is a root vegetable that grows in the mountains of Peru. It’s been used for centuries to boost energy and support overall health, and now it’s the latest trendy superfood. And who doesn’t love a good trend?

But seriously, the Maca is GIVING. Here are some of the benefits you can expect:

1. Increased Energy

Maca is a natural energizer that can give you a much-needed boost without the jitters of coffee or energy drinks. Plus, it won’t stain your teeth or leave you with coffee breath. #winning

2. Hormone balance

Maca is known for its ability to balance hormones, which can help alleviate symptoms of PMS and menopause. It can also improve fertility and sexual function. So basically, Maca is like a hormone whisperer. And my husband is a smart ass, so naturally, he’s walking around dropping hints about me taking my Maca everyday.

3. Improved mood

Feeling down? Maca has been shown to help improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It’s like a little happy pill, but without the side effects.

4. Enhanced athletic performance

Want to be a fitness goddess? Maca can help improve endurance, strength, and performance. So, you can crush those workouts and still have energy left over for chasing after your little ones.

HONORABLE MENTION:

It’s giving body-ody. I’ve seen women say they notice a little extra curve in all the right places since taking it. I’m assuming that’s because of all the hormonal benefits. I haven’t noticed a change everywhere, but my boobs…most definitely. It’s like having period boobs, but without the period. Those that get it, get it!

It’s worth noting that there are different types of Maca. Apparently, I’ve been taking some sort of blend of 3-4 types (says the website.)

Incorporating Maca into your diet is easy. I know some of the TikTok girlies can be seen shoving pre workout in their mouth and chasing it with water, which is highly disturbing…but I ain’t that girl! I mix it with orange juice. Maca doesn’t easily dissolve, so I usually use a hand blender or go to work with that spoon to get rid of the chunks.

It’s not delicious, I would say it tastes like…the earth? I don’t know. That’s why a cup of OJ or a smoothie is the easiest way for me to knock it down. Trust me, it’s worth it. It eliminates my period cramps, gives me energy, and boosts my mood so I’m nicer to my man. I see no downside. Get you some!
